Well it's official, Trevor Bauer is quite possibly the smartest man to ever suit up and step on the diamond. If you haven't heard Trevor Bauer just signed a three year 102 million dollar deal to the Los Angeles Dodgers making him the highest paid player in the MLB. This seems like a bit much for a pitcher that has had a total of two good seasons in his entire career, or a guy that pretty much complained his way out of Cleveland. While I do understand that the man has already won two Cy Young Awards I also understand that Bauer is one of the most unreliable and inconsistent pitchers in the Bigs. It might sound like I'm hating on Bauer but I can assure you I'm not.

Here's why I believe Bauer is a genius at work, everytime there is controversy in the MLB one doesn't have to look far to find Bauer's name. Whether it's him hurling a ball over the centerfield wall in order to get himself traded, or sporting Joe Kelly cleats after Kelly went at with the Houston Asterisks. Bauer never fails to bring attention to his name which is part of the reason this man just received his bag this offseason. It's not often that a pitcher that gives up as many hits, walks and homers as Bauer gets paid this much but as they say any publicity is better than no publicity and in Bauer's case he attracts all kinds of publicity. When looking at Bauer's stats and advanced metrics throughout the majority of his career you would think that this guy is an average pitcher at best that had two season where he was able to find success, but Trevor Bauer is regarded as one of the best pitchers of this decade by many fans and I'm sorry but this is just not the case. Bauer gives up an astounding number of hard hit line drives, while also giving up a large amount of deep pop ups. But hey if you keep the spotlight on yourself people are bound to pay attention to you. I am in no way trying to hate on Trevor Bauer because after the news came out today about him signing this new contract I gained so much respect for this man. When he came into the league he decided that he wanted to be a troll and he stuck to it and look at him now, he's the highest paid player in baseball.
