Texas A&M Corpus Christi Just Screams Cinderella Team

Going into this tournament I didn't see a 16-seed that I thought had a chance at winning a game. That changed very quickly once I got to know Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and let me tell you they are absolutely electric. One thing you will notice in this blog is that I couldn't care less about the actual basketball team. If we are solely looking at the product on the floor this team doesn't look like they belong on the floor with Alabama, but that's not the only thing the tournament is about. Every other factor points me to picking this team to upset the number one overall team in the entire bracket.

TAMUCC picked up a tough win over SEMO in their first four matchup to punch their ticket to the main bracket. If you watched this game you noticed a few things. If SEMO didn't foul on every single possession they probably would have won. TAMUCC isn't that great at basketball. Finally, did you see this team's ELITE mascot courtside?

I mean look at this guy, how can you root against this turquoise fella. However, when I looked further into their mascot history I saw that their old mascot was somehow even better.

If they brought this guy out of retirement for the tournament I'm not sure if they would lose a game. Could it be argued that they not only have the best mascot in the tournament, they may have the TWO best mascots in the tournament. I think yes.

The next thing I saw was this school's campus. When I say this is probably the coolest college campus I've ever seen I mean it.

ITS. AN. ISLAND. Guys, it's an island. This is awesome. It doesn't get any better than that. I'm sitting here rotting away in the middle of rural Kentucky while people are going to school on their own private island. Talk about the ultimate home court advantage. I'm actually worried about this team because they are being forced to play an away game when they should be playing on the island.

Finally, we have to look at this school's Barstool account on Twitter.

They have been making Brandon Miller gun jokes non-stop for about 24 hours now. Normally that would get very old very fast, but I gotta admit it, whoever runs this account is hilarious. I've always said that basketball is a mental game, and they are playing that game perfectly. I have to think that some of the players for Bama have seen some of these tweets, and that's all it takes. If TAMUCC somehow wins this game I am going to give a lot of the credit to troll accounts on Twitter.

All of this on top of a very invested fanbase makes me love TAMUCC as a potential Cinderella team for this year's tourney. They play Alabama tomorrow afternoon, and it's either going to be an absolute beat down or TAMUCC is going to come away with one of the greatest upsets in NCAA basketball history.
